Cock or Rooster

“Ko Ka Ra Ko” is the sound made by the male Chicken called the Cock or Rooster. The male chicken makes several calls, but the particular sound spelled onomatopoeically as Cock-a-doodle-do in English, Goh-geh-goh-goh in Chinese, Co-Cori-Co in French, or Ko-Ka-Ra-Ko in Telugu or Tamil is very characteristic of this bird scientifically known as Gallus gallus.

The Rooster sits on a high perch usually 6 to 7 feet off the ground and looks out for his flock. He is polygynous (mating with a number of hen) and prevails dominant if he has a large comb and long tail feathers. Other males with small combs and short feathers tend to be submissive and keep off the flock. The dominant Rooster guards his hen and by making this special call sends out alarm signals.

The Rooster is a breed of the Jungle fowl prevalent in India, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. The Jungle fowl is yellow headed with a bright red comb and wattles. Its feathers are multicolored with red, green, yellow and blue and resemble the colorful costume of a jester. The male jungle fowl is an opportunistic bird feeding on insects, worms, grains and nuts. He moves around the flock of hen, does not take part in nest building, incubation or the care for the young ones.

Domestication of Jungle fowl was first done in India 5200 years ago. Since then the bird has gained cultural significance. By the 6th century BC it entered Europe and was introduced all over the world.

Cock fighting is a great sport of entertainment in which two or more specially bred birds are placed in an enclosure. The males are inherently aggressive and need no special training to fight. Placed head to head, the birds display their neck plumage jump up and down with swift flapping of wings and attack with their talons at vertical angle in the air.

The birds will try to pierce the neck or head of the opponent with the beak. A cockfight may last between a few minutes and a half hour and usually results in the death of one or both the birds. Cockfights are traditional sporting events conducted mainly for gambling and entertainment, although the original reason was to serve as an alternative to a battle.

Rocky Rhodes, the Rooster is a famous character in the Comedy animation movie, “Chicken Run”. The movie is an escape drama with a touch of passion set on a sinister Yorks Chicken Farm in 1950 in England. Ginger, a pretty hen believes Rocky Rhodes is a great flier and can help all the Chicken escape from the farm, before the cruel owners converted the farm into a chicken pie factory.

The story is taken to develop a stealth based 3D platform named Chicken Gear Solid with a variety of escape plans that the children can construct. The game is special because it has no guns or violence.
